Tried searching some of the threads, but I am confused. I am seeking a 1.4 or 1.5 tc for use with the Canon Rebel 350D and Canon 400 mm f/5.6 lens. I am looking for one that offers good quality, reasonable cost, and allows auto focus and exposure to work on the camera. Any candidates?
Thanks,
Eric
Kenko pro 300dg 1.4x everytime.60 odd quid on Ebay (UR GALAXY) with a 6 day delivery turnaround from Hong Kong.I have had mine about a year now and I love it.
You can use either one. The Kenko 1.4 pro 300 dg is a good quality tc and very good value for money when compared to the Canon 1.4 but you will need to tape the pins on the converter to achieve AF (or should I say try to AF)
The cheaper Kenko 1.5tc is not so good a quality but will try to AF without taping the pins.
You must remember that any tc used with a f5.6 lens and a non 1 series body is not meant to AF so fooling the camera into Auto focusing will always be a compromise, AF will slow and may not work at all in low light.
Must say that I tried both a Kenko pro and Canon 1.4 tc with my 350D and 400mm f5.6 and I did not have much success with AF. On the 30D things improved a lot.
Exposure is not a problem with any tc as metering takes place via TTL (through the Lens).
